1. Oats

Make a delicious alkaline porridge with oats, nut milk and agave syrup – simple.

2. Chia Seeds

Swap the oats for chia seeds in the porridge recipe above and you’ve got a tasty, filling breakfast pudding.

3. Almond Milk

Use on cereals, porridge, in your tea, in smoothies – very versatile, low fat, alkaline and has lots of vitamins and minerals. Check out my creamy almond milk recipe here.

4. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice in warm water is a great blood cleanser and liver detoxifier to have first thing.

5. Fruit

Fruit is great for breakfast because it’s full of fibre, full of vitamins, sweet and easily digestible. Have a mono-meal of a few of the same fruits (e.g. 5 oranges or a 2 mangoes) or make a big fruit salad.

6. Bananas

Bananas are great on their own or in a big banana smoothie. try 4 very ripe bananas with one mango or very ripe persimmon  and some water, or a banana green smoothie with leafy greens or wheatgrass powder.

7. Spinach (Yes, spinach!)

Spinach makes a highly alkalizing addition to your fruit smoothies or can be added to rice dishes, if you like a savoury breakfast.

8. Brown Rice

Make a rice pudding with almond milk and agave syrup or cinnamon, or have brown rice with vegetables and spices for a hearty savoury brekkie.

9. Herbal Teas

I like to always have a selection of caffeine-free herbal teas in my cupboard. Try liquorice, mint, cammomile, jasmine or rosehip. These are great when you’re not ready for food yet, or a full breakfast but will get your system kickstarted in the morning and are very refreshing.

10. Buckwheat

You can make sweet buckwheat pancakes from buckwheat flour or use the hearty grain to make a vegetable and buckwheat savoury dish.

Good question! How about cinnamon or a little agave nectar or bananas? These all combine well and are not too acidifying :-)
